When kitting out a new home (or vamping up an old one), you must ensure that you pick out some gorgeous tableware if you really want to nail your interior decor. Comprising bits and bobs like plates, bowls, cutlery and serving dishes, they are some of the most used things in your home.
Set the perfect table with our selection of bespoke tableware trinkets. Whether you’re entertaining friends or wooing your boo, make sure breakfast, lunch and dinner is served properly. From rustic wooden bowls to porcelain bento styled plates, we’ve got every style and preference covered.
From day-to-day tableware to special occasion sets, load your larder so that you’re ready for every eventuality. Trust us, your mum was onto something when she told you not to use the good china for your daily bowl of bran-flakes.
All our tableware knick-knacks are delivered with fast shipping (and lots of bubble wrap) so don’t worry about any nasty breakages whilst in transit. That being said, most of our tableware is made from durable materials like wood and porcelain and so can withstand a lot of wear and tear (especially during raucous dinner parties). Oh, and most of them are microwave and dishwasher safe, just to make your life in the kitchen as easy as possible.
As said, tableware includes the likes of plates, bowls, and cutlery. When you lump all three together you get a full dinner set, and trust us when we say you can never have too many of these.
Now, it’s important when you are buying a dinner set that all three parts match. Having a higgledy-piggledy set is not a good look and would definitely get you points deducted if you were to go on Come Dine With Me. Tableware usually comes in three different types of designs: classic, modern and romantic, so pick your style and roll with it consistently.
If you’re not sure whether your a classic, modern or romantic kind of person, then let us give you these helpful pointers. Romantic tableware features patterns that are reminiscent of living things, for example, birds, shells, flowers and fruit - so if your tableware looks like it could start singing ‘The Circle Of Life’, then you my friend have a penchant for romantic designs.
On the other hand, classic designs are adapted from historical periods: think the straight lines of neoclassic designs, or the curving asymmetry of rococo. If you can’t stop thinking about Namuos’ cup and saucer in a glossy grey, then you’re a fan of the classic designs for sure.
Last up: modern styles of tableware are abstract in concept an often depict geometric motifs, so for example, if you’re crazy for R.L.Foote Design Studio’s porcelain diamond lab salad bowl then you definitely have a thing for modern designs.
To match your tableware to your decor, you first have to establish what you decor style is. If you don’t already know what this is, then here are some tell-tale signs. If you love raw wood, exposed stone and warm neutral tones, then you’re a rustic aesthetic type. Go for Cookplay’s bamboo duo plates to keep your tableware in line with your rustic aesthetic.
An industrial design features elements of minimalism and urban grit, which means it takes clues from old factories and industrial spaces, grey, white and black colour schemes, as well as metal and concrete furnishings. If this all gets you hot and heavy, you should go for Cookplay’s black porcelain ramen bowls, or matte white, deep dinner plate set.
The Scandis are known for their flawless design - they’re all about clean lines, sculptural details, and open, airy spaces. Of course, they’re also all about hygge - loosely translated as cosy, and nothing is as cosy as candlelights, hearty food and good company. Feed into the hygge with R.L.Foote Design Studio’s porcelain bento set.
Finally, the bohemian look is defined by eclectic, whimsical colours and bold hippie prints. This style is all about playing with colours and patterns, so try out R.L.Foote Design Studio’s porcelain crystalline vase in a funky jade base colour and interesting acid wash splodges.
Now that you’ve chosen your tableware and had it delivered to your doorstep with fast shipping, you need to actually put your bits and bobs together into a gorgeous arrangement.
First things first, you have to lay out a place mat (note, this isn’t essential for everyday use, but all good dinner parties should feature one, just saying). From there you need to place the dinner plate in the centre of the mat, with a fork placed on the left side of the plate and a knife to the right side. An easy way to remember this is to just think about which hands you usually eat your knife in fork with and then place accordingly. The spoon should also sit on the right next to knife, too.
As for glassware, the water glass should be placed in the top right corner (above the knife), with the wineglass (either for red or white, depending on you chosen poison) being placed to the right the water glass.
There, it really is as easy as that!
